Lips, roses, strawberries, fire trucks, cherries, ladybugs, radishes, wagons, bricks, nail polish, hair...what do all of these things have in common? They are all shades of red. There are so many shades and tones of red that it can be difficult to decide which color red to go with when decorating your home.
Red is a bold statement color, in feng shui colors help the energies of the space bring harmony and balance. The color red has been seen more frequently in home decor not just for the front door anymore. I have seen it being used in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, even the pool!
The color red doesn't have to be intimidating. It is said in feng shui the color red is the strongest color representation of the fire element. Fire represents the energy of sun and life, this color brings the energy of joy and excitement.
As part of the fire element red is a yang energy that helps to bring balance to the home. Red is physical and represents strength, energy, power and self-esteem.
The color red also has many different symbols in culture. In China red symbolizes luck and is believed to ward away the evil. Red is found everywhere during Chinese New Year and other holidays and family gatherings. Did you know that it may be considered offensive to use red ink for Chinese names in contexts other than official seals? Specifically in India, the color relates to purity. In Mexico and some other Latin American nations, when used with white, red is the color of religion. For the Middle East, red evokes feelings of danger and caution. Some also consider it the color of evil.
When I think of red it means romantic, sexy, bold and love. I am looking forward to some redecorating around here and incorporating the color red. Here are some of my favorites from Houzz, you can see the
idea book here.
