Monarch | Arredon Contemporary Art Gallery partnered with The Water Conservation Garden this past Wednesday for homeowners looking to be water wise in their gardening. As we all know the drought in California is REAL and its everyone's turn, together we can save more!
Horticulture Director Clayton offered Water-Wise Gardening 101, learning the basics of intelligent gardening and how to incorporate drought-tolerant plants into your landscape. The art gallery was a fabulous location to hold this event with beautiful sculptured art by Ron Jermyn: Vita Spiritus as the backdrop.
California's emergency water conservation mandate went into effect this past June. Where outdoor ornamental potable water use, especially lawn watering, is the main target. See emergency conservation regulation below:

- Landscape design helps you to be effective in drought tolerant landscape - make a plan, the key is finding the micro climates and mini-ecosystems in your yard (DIY at Home Depot or hire a landscaper that specializes in drought tolerant design).
- Plot out your yard by taking note of sunny and shady spots. Create and use shade.
- Identify slopes and drainage patterns, planting in a grid will add structure to your landscape.
- Note existing vegetation and architecture that you can't/won't remove
- Decide how you will use each area of your yard (ie, recreation, dining, etc.)
